PERSONAL PROJECTS

'Presence'
'Presence’ is a photographic project exploring the conflict surrounding my own relationship with nature – specifically the rural environment that I grew up in and seek to return to as I grow older and move to new cities. The British landscape provides a nostalgic feeling of comfort which is why, when I am in new areas, I will always look for the nearest hill or woodland. Despite the comfort these places give, they are also potentially dangerous and symbolise violence, and returning to these places alone as a young adult I am much more aware of my own presence in these environments, and this uncomfortable awareness of being out of place is a feeling reflected upon throughout this project.

'Then, Again'
'Then, Again' is a photographic project drawing upon my personal drive to connect parts of my identity - a desire for union, to feel ‘whole’. Inspired by walking along routes I had not been since my childhood with my family over the first summer lockdown, I realised there were many things I had abandoned in my childhood that I felt a need to reconnect with in order to feel ‘whole’. This project also reflects upon my drive to connect across cultures, and attempts to connect with my Nigerian heritage as a Westerner.
